So I did a fair amount of work last week modifying my chosen book. Just thought i'd give it a show. Also i think that most of the images from my modified book could be used in the screen printing workshop and could actually turn out really effective. I'm going to try this at some point.

Alan Lee

I absolutely love Alan Lee for the work he produced in the creating of the lord of the rings. He literally envisioned every one of Tolkien's descriptions and immortalized them for entire world to cherish and love for years to come. He has an amazing drawing ability and i admire him very much. His RRP sketchbook of his ideas, sketches, final works and concepts of the amazing trilogy is absolutely engrossing and can't seem to tear myself away from it. Alan lee and John howe were the lead concept artists for the Lord of the Rings movies. They have also currently been commissioned to carry on their conceptual studies of Tolkien's novels for the upcoming Hobbit movie.

Roberto Morales

Roberto Morales is an up and coming illustrator from Newport Beach, California. He dedicates his time to produce huge, intricate, surreal and abstract images using a micron pen and a range of pencils. His work first gained interest on face book where he sold prints and original artworks over the Internet via face book, twitter and eBay. Roberto uses online blogs, competitions and illustration exhibitions to market and sell his work. I have gained massive inspiration from Morales' work through his use of imaginary and amazing creatures. His use of line is outstanding and the effect that is achieved in his work through combining fine liners and soft pencil inspires me to experiment with different materials and ways of drawing in my own work.

Such an awesome project! featuring Johanna Basford

This is fantastic project I found posted on Johanna Basford's blog. She is a very skilled Illustrator and I love her black and white contrasting style as well as her imaginative designs. This project in particular really inspired me in Basford's use of computer and social networking technology to produce a hand drawn outcome onto quite an iconic product that was viewed live all over the world.

- Johanna makes posts on her blog every 7-9 days

- She has hand drawn the background, headers and the facebook, twitters and behance buttons at the bottom of the page. I think this makes the whole website a lot more visually attractive and really integrates with her style of work.
- The black of the text and the white of the background all reflects her work.
-Her blog is part of her own personal website along with her commissions page, gallery, shop and Twitter.

Me, Myself and I

   These are the first few pages of my modified book, I really love the freedom I have with this project as i can freely express my creative desires.  I particularly like the one to the right because it spreads across two pages and really integrates well with the design of the book and the typeface. 

Drawings of home for print screening workshop.

This is a pen drawing of the outside of my house produced in response to Thursday's print making workshop with Maria. I am really pleased with this drawing, although maybe a bit bland I am particularly pleased with the cleanness of the line work  and can't wait to see how it will turn out after the screening.

1st sketches, ideas and doodles.

So iv' just started my illustration degree at Plymouth college of art, really enjoying it! Everyones really nice, tutors, students, lecturers etc etc. Cant wait to get my teeth fully into this course hopefully produce some outstanding work and develop my skills on the way. Heres a little bit of stuff iv' been sketching and doodling over the last week and a half, nothing special or refined, just ideas, notes and scribbles really. Enjoy~!

I really enjoyed this activity as it bombarded me with ideas and inspiration to fill this A3 page right to the edges. All it takes is a little motivation.










Below are a few ideas for my life time-line depicting fetus' and ways of visually communicating this information .

  Above is a pen sketched illustration of the "student feedback" section of the college handbook. I really like using the technique that is surrounding the subject as a contrast between the white of the page. Visually it is also very effective.

 Above is the first page from the project "me, my book and I" Our task was to pick out random words from the page to try and make a coherent sentence about ourselves. This proved increasingly difficult as each word was selected so i cheated a little bit and the sentence quickly become incoherent, but I still feel that the technique used to fill the background and hide the rest of the text describes my personality in my use of sketchy "misguided" and seemingly random placement of lines. Also, it kind of looks like my hair. :)

 And finally a quickie of me relaxing on the edge of an island watching the sunset and cruise ship sail on by.
I like the atmosphere in this piece and the use of just two colors and the black pen really sets the mood.

I feel that I have produced some nice work in this last week considering that I am just getting back into the swing of things and hopefully much more to come. Peace.
